The Perkins Center welcomes Dr. Jemar Tisby and Rev. Dominique Dubois Gilliard for the 2023 Perkins Lecture Series, April 23–25, The Legacy of Where We Are: Lessons from History.
This invitation to two authors, speakers and historians will bring us into reflections and conversations to both challenge and encourage us. We hope that you will join us for the weeks events!
This annual lecture series is a time to gather the Perkins Center’s relationships from campus and community, coming together in reflection and learning together. This year’s events will take place both on campus and in the community. The 2023 Lecture Series is sponsored in partnership with Rainier Avenue Church, Churchome and CCDA PNW.

Dr. Tisby will provide the 17th Annual Perkins Lecture for an evening gathering this year. We will also be able to present this year's Perkins Center Prize scholarship winners.

Dr. Tisby will also be a panelist at part of the 2023 Walls Lecture presented by the School of Theology, with Drs. Douglas Strong, Segbegnon Gnonhossou, Matthew Sigler and moderated by Ashley Skinner-Creek. The Walls Lecture will take place on Tuesday, April 25 at 7pm.

Meet the speakers
Jemar Tisby, PhD, speaks nationwide on topics of racial justice, U.S. history, and Christianity. He is the author of The New York Times’ bestseller, The Color of Compromise: The Truth About the American Church's Complicity in Racism and How to Fight Racism: Courageous Christianity and the Journey toward Racial Justice. He is also professor of history at Simmons College of Kentucky, and he has been a co-host of the Pass the Mic podcast since it began. His writing has been featured in The Washington Post, The Atlantic, The New York Times, and elsewhere.
Dominique DuBois Gilliard, MDiv, is the author of Rethinking Incarceration: Advocating for Justice that Restores, and he was named Outreach Magazine’s 2019 Social Issues Resource of the Year. His latest book, Subversive Witness: Scripture’s Call to Leverage Privilege, won Englewood Review of Books 2021 Book of the Year Award. Gilliard is the director of racial righteousness and reconciliation for the Love Mercy Do Justice initiative for the Evangelical Covenant Church. He also serves on the board of directors for the Christian Community Development Association.
Joyce del Rosario, PhD, came to Seattle Pacific University in 2022 to lead Multi-Ethnic Programs as the director. Prior to leading MEP, she served as assistant professor of the practice of ministry and the director of community engaged learning at the Pacific School of Religion (PSR) in Berkeley, California. In addition, she served as the director of the Asian American and Pacific Island Initiative at PSR.
